Diabetes and complications of the foot, are the side effects of insulin injection significant?

Patient's question:

My father was diagnosed with diabetes ten years ago, so he has been taking medication to maintain normal blood sugar levels. However, sometimes he doesn't take his medicine consistently, which makes his condition a bit unstable. That's because he doesn't take his medication properly. Recently, he was found to have diabetic foot and complications of diabetes. Is the insulin side effect of anesthesia significant?

Doctor's answer:

Diabetic foot patients need to receive anti-infection treatment under strict blood sugar control, along with local debridement and dressing changes. If blood sugar control is not ideal, insulin treatment should be implemented. The insulin dosage needs to be adjusted based on the patient's blood sugar levels. If the baseline blood sugar is high and insulin resistance is strong, a larger amount of insulin will be required. Although there are adverse reactions, they are necessary.
