Features: The Illustrated Catalogue of Chinese Peony Varieties comprehensively and systematically introduces the resources, distribution, classification, ecological and biological characteristics, propagation, cultivation, and application of wild and cultivated peony varieties in China. It focuses on the classification of variety groups and cultivars, outlining the principles and methods. The book highlights 400 typical peony varieties from the Zhongyuan group, with accurate and concise descriptions, strong scientific rigor and authority, and rich illustrations. It is engaging and visually appealing. This Catalogue was compiled collectively by experienced production and research personnel from Heze, Luoyang, and Beijing, led by the Peony and Tree Peony Branch of the China Flower Association. Through collaborative writing, joint discussions, and unified revision, it was completed. Especially for each variety, the morphological characteristics, habits, and origins were determined through on-site observations, field recordings, multiple verifications, and consultations with experienced local craftsmen or breeders. During the process, many homonymous or heteronymous varieties were clarified, and some varieties lacking cultivar value were eliminated. The goal was to ensure the accuracy, representativeness, and scientific validity of each recorded variety. It is hoped that this Catalogue can serve as a model for various regions to use as a reference for identifying, verifying, and documenting peony varieties.
