His father-in-law, Huang, refused him at the door. However, the Huang family's daughter remained faithful to their engagement and walked thousands of miles, begging along the way, to marry Liu He. One day, Liu He and his wife discovered stacks of silver coins in an empty corner of their house. Liu He remembered that these were bricks piled by his uncle Gong Mengbi years ago, and he recalled the "burying silver" game he used to play with Gong Mengbi in his youth. He dug up tens of thousands of taels of silver from the ground. Inspired, Liu He devoted himself to studying and passed the imperial examination, becoming a jinshi.
