Features: There are countless Chinese steles and inscriptions, and many skilled calligraphers in China. However, due to the passage of time, many steles and inscriptions, including those revered by calligraphers through the ages, have suffered varying degrees of missing characters and worn surfaces. To facilitate modern learners and provide the best calligraphy models, our publishing house has specially invited scholars to select and meticulously examine famous calligraphy works from past dynasties. They have supplemented missing characters in the inscriptions and cleaned worn-out portions, ensuring the inscriptions are complete and the pages are refreshed.
The key to practicing calligraphy lies in mastering the rules of brushwork. Since calligraphers of different eras have their own unique styles, we have included diagrams illustrating the brushwork rules of various masters at the beginning of each volume to aid learners. Calligraphy is a unique art where the author expresses beauty through the writing of Chinese characters. A well-crafted inscription is like a beautiful piece of prose, and skilled calligraphers can transform every stroke into gold, leaving a lasting impression.
To make it easier for learners to read and write, we have proofread and punctuated all characters in this set of Newly Compiled Complete Masterpieces, added appropriate annotations, and presented them in simplified horizontal characters. For the first time, our publishing house is launching five masterpieces by renowned calligraphers: Ouyang Xun’s Calligraphy of the Ninefold Palace, Liu Fangquan’s Calligraphy of the Xuanshimita, Yan Zhenqing’s Calligraphy of the Dabota, Zhao Mengfu’s Calligraphy of Shouchuntang, and Su Shi’s Calligraphy of Zhit ingji. Along with their simplified character versions, other masterpieces by famous calligraphers will be released.
