The novel depicts Sir Graham, the owner of the cruise ship Duncan, discovering clues about the Scottish sailor Captain Grant, who had disappeared two years ago, and requesting the British government to send a ship to rescue him. The British government refused his request, and Sir Graham, determined, decided to organize a rescue team himself. Accompanied by his wife, Helena, he took the two children of Captain Grant aboard the Duncan cruise ship to search for the captain.
