Features: The Sorrows of Young Werther is one of Goethe's most important works from his early period, a rich achievement of Germany's Sturm und Drang movement, and a treasure in the world's literary heritage. It became a sensation across the European continent upon its publication, sparking a Werther fever and quickly becoming a German literary work with significant international impact. Napoleon, who spent his life in military campaigns, carried The Sorrows of Young Werther with him and read it seven times. Goethe was Germany's greatest poet, writer, and thinker, one of the most important writers in Germany and Europe from the mid-18th century to the early 19th century, and is often referred to alongside Schiller as the twin pillars of 19th-century German literature. It was selected for the "Personal Ideal Library" list by France's L' magazine. It was also recommended by 14 professors, including Ji Xianlin, Yang Zhouhan, and Li Funing, in the Chinese and Foreign Literary Bibliography published in 1986 as a "Chinese and Foreign Literary Reading List." The Sorrows of Young Werther is not an ordinary sentimental love story but has achieved great critical acclaim—Engels.
I sit here, agitated, my heart pounding, tears of and pain trickling down my cheeks, because I have just finished reading my dear Goethe's Werther.
