Is an EEG harmful for epilepsy?

Patient's question:

Doctor, my father is 66 years old this year, and his health has always been quite good. The only thing is that he has high blood pressure and heart disease. A few weeks ago, he suddenly fainted at home. We thought it was an embolism, but when we went to the hospital, they said it was acute epilepsy. I just want to ask the doctor if an EEG for epilepsy is harmful.

Doctor's answer:

An electroencephalogram (EEG) for epilepsy is a non-invasive examination that requires no excessive concern. This examination is conducted through our electrical physiology, and it poses no harm to our bodies. Generally, based on typical symptoms and EEG results, the possibility of epilepsy can be inferred or ruled out. Once diagnosed with epilepsy, active treatment should be initiated.
