Features: Young forensic pathologist Laurie discovers a significant increase in deaths due to drug overdose among recently submitted corpses, and they are all well-educated, successful social elites. Filled with urgency, Laurie seeks the Chief Medical Examiner to publicly issue a warning, but is firmly rejected due to a lack of evidence. Even the police officer she has grown close to, Lou, dismisses her concerns. As a Lieutenant in the Major Case Unit of the New York Police Department, his focus is on the escalating feud between two mob factions, Paul and Vinny, who are on the verge of. In Lou's view, the social harm caused by gang warfare far exceeds the loss of a few "hippies" who knowingly engage in drugs despite the danger. Desperate, Laurie turns to her parents' insistence on pairing her with Jordan, an ophthalmologist skilled in corneal transplant surgery. Coincidentally, gang leader Paul is one of his patients, having suffered severe corneal damage from acid thrown by a rival, requiring a new cornea for sight restoration. Interestingly, the number of corneal transplant surgeries performed by this doctor has also been doubling recently. Jordan is quite satisfied with his busy and lucrative practice and has neither the time nor the inclination to help Laurie. In sheer desperation, Laurie confides in a journalist. After the journalist's article is published, the furious Chief Medical Examiner fires Laurie.
