What are the symptoms of a seizure recurrence?

Patient's question:

My husband has epilepsy and has been suffering from it for a year. However, in the past two years, his condition has improved significantly. He might have one or two episodes per year. I was wondering what are the symptoms of epilepsy recurrence?

Doctor's answer:

Epilepsy, which is also commonly referred to as "swooning in the folk," is a chronic brain disorder characterized by brief episodes of abnormal electrical activity in the brain. Due to the varying initial locations and transmission methods of abnormal pulses, the clinical manifestations of epilepsy are complex and diverse, ranging from recurrent motor, sensory, autonomic, cognitive, and psychiatric disturbances. The causes of epilepsy are numerous and varied. With proper antiepileptic drug treatment, about 70% of epilepsy patients can achieve control over their seizures. In 50% to 60% of these patients, seizures can be completely controlled after 2 to 5 years of treatment, allowing them to live and work normally like healthy individuals.
