Features: Discover China: 100 Important Archaeological Discoveries of 2004 is a selection of archaeological findings reported by China Cultural Relics News Agency during 2004. In recent years, archaeological excavation projects across the country have been carried out in the vicinity of a thousand each year, but very few excavation reports are formally published, and many excavation records remain difficult to be released after years of completion, failing to fulfill their due role, or even turning scientific excavations into scientific destruction. China Cultural Relics News Agency has always strived to promote improvements in this situation. Therefore, the editorial department has established a policy of publishing all available archaeological discovery information and requiring the team leaders of excavations to personally contribute articles. After the annual selection of the Top Ten Archaeological Discoveries in China, jointly organized by China Cultural Relics News Agency and the Chinese Archaeological Society, significant archaeological findings are introduced to the public with great ceremony, and the relevant materials are compiled and published as soon as possible. Regrettably, the dissemination and scope of these activities remain quite limited. Now, we have selected 100 most important findings from annual archaeological reports, compiled them into a collection, and included them in the series. This serves both to provide professionals with convenient and comprehensive access to research materials and to allow more cultural relic and archaeological enthusiasts to understand the new findings, their value, and significance. During the selection process, the original articles have been largely unchanged, and they are arranged in chronological order based on the era of the discoveries. Although each finding is concise, the content is authoritative and reflects the main essence and significance of the discoveries, as the articles are often written by excavation team leaders or experts. The articles often contain specialized terms and symbols, so to facilitate understanding, we have appended several commonly used ones below for reference by amateur readers.
