Beijing is an ancient capital for six dynasties, a model of ancient Chinese cities, and also a gem of human architecture. Unfortunately, our understanding is insufficient. When only a few scholars called for protection, the majority of the public remained in a state of confusion and ignorance. The reasons behind this are complex and continue to influence Beijing's urban planning and construction to this day. If political factors were dominant for a considerable period, economic factors now play a more significant role, forcing us into confusion and reflection.
