This textbook consists of 13 chapters and 21 practical sessions. It has enhanced the content on rock deformation and strain analysis; removed some cumbersome geometric classifications of folds and faults, highlighting quantitative and causative classification schemes instead; placed more emphasis on folds and faults; dedicated separate chapters to geoscience hot topics such as thrust faults, extensional structures, and strike-slip structures, which have seen rapid research progress in recent years; and appropriately supplemented and revised topics such as ductile shear zones, finite strain measurements, balanced geological cross-sections, the plastic deformation mechanisms of geological bodies, the emplacement mechanisms of intrusive bodies, and the causative mechanisms of foliation.
