Features: This book selects 185 poets from the Tang, Five Dynasties, and Song dynasties, with a total of 697 poems. The arrangement of poets and their works generally follows the order in Dunhuang Ci Zi Ci Ji (Collected Subtitle Poems from Dunhuang), Tang and Five Dynasties Ci (Ci Poems of the Tang and Five Dynasties), and Complete Song Ci (Complete Collection of Song Ci). Works by anonymous authors are listed separately under the Tang and Five Dynasties, Northern Song, and late Southern Song periods. Each poet's works are preceded by a brief biography, including birth and death years, place of origin, life experiences, artistic style, and their status in the history of ci poetry. The original texts are based on authoritative editions, generally using common versions without annotations. Explanations of words and phrases in the original texts are provided in the appreciations, without separate notes. Ancient place names are usually followed by modern names or current administrative divisions in parentheses. Old historical eras are generally followed by corresponding years in the Common Era in parentheses. This book uses simplified characters, with traditional characters or variant forms used when necessary to avoid ambiguity. The book includes five appendices: Basic Knowledge of Reading Ci, Introduction to Key Works on Ci Studies, Introduction to Ci Forms Seen in This Book, Index of Ci Forms, and Index of Poets.
