Features: In the history of Chinese calligraphy, the rigorous and elegant style of Dong Qichang flourished during the late Ming and early Qing dynasties. Wang Duo, however, drew inspiration from ancient masters and stood in contrast to the constrained, dull, and weak calligraphic styles of his time. He boldly innovated and pioneered a new era in calligraphy. He was an outstanding innovator in the history of calligraphy. His innovations in brushwork and ink were also pioneering. His lines were vigorous, aged, and varied, revealing a unique personality in his seemingly effortless jumps and flourishes. At times, he used thick, thin, or even dry ink to boldly create a strong contrast between lines and blocks, forming a powerful rhythm. It cannot be said that his intentional or unintentional creations were a great achievement in exaggerating the contrast in calligraphic form. Before him, no one had pursued the "swollen ink" effect as actively as he did. Wang Duo's calligraphy had a profound impact on the later development of Chinese calligraphy and even influenced calligraphy circles overseas, particularly Japan. Wang Duo was also skilled in painting. His landscape paintings followed Jing Hao and Guan Tong, with majestic and imposing peaks and gorges. He used minimal strokes, relying on ink wash to create atmosphere, enhanced with light colors, resulting in a deep and rich texture with a distinct artistic charm. His landscapes, flowers, plants, bamboo, and rocks all bore the key to calligraphy. Occasionally, he painted orchids, bamboo, plum blossoms, and rocks, imbuing them with a transcendent elegance. He once said to others, "Painting that is silent and free of excess clarity, like Ni Yunlin's style, may have a (light elegance), but it is inevitably dry and lifeless, with a sickly and weak breath—such is called light and elegant, but it is extremely weak. Great masters do not approve of this." He also remarked, "Only by creating an extraordinary realm can one generate a breath of ink wash, which is truly superior. But how can one match the creativity of nature?"
