Features: Chamber music is a genre of instrumental works, primarily expressed through solo, ensemble, and concerto performance forms. Among these, ensemble works mainly employ polyphonic techniques for composition. Currently, in China, while there are relatively outstanding ensemble works in orchestral music, there are fewer classic ensemble works in traditional Chinese music. So, can traditional Chinese music ensemble create works that are equally challenging in composition as orchestral music but also uniquely distinctive in style? A few years ago, the author reanalyzed the excellent traditional Chinese music ensemble works composed by his late mentor, Professor Hu Denta, and was greatly inspired, leading to a persistent commitment to creation and practice. The eight works included in this book represent the author's exploratory attempts in composing traditional Chinese music ensemble pieces, addressing issues such as:
formal structure; the application of tonal development and multi-voice writing; how polyphonic compositional techniques can be used to enhance national melodies; and how vocal music can be blended with traditional Chinese instrumental music.
