This is the truth behind "Chasing the Truth," this is the expression of "Unexpressed." This book reveals the secrets of news production at a nationally influential newspaper and showcases the truth behind the relentless pursuit of media's backstage operations. Some say the value of the articles in the book may even surpass the public reports of Southern Weekly. Of course, that's excessive praise. However, it truly documents the relationship between news and journalists, reality and reflectors. The Backstage (Volume 2) is divided into three parts: "Action," "Thought," and "Debate."
"Action" showcases the joys and sorrows of journalists during interviews and reporting: how to find news leads in the trash; how to reduce interview costs by staying overnight to ensure objective reporting without having to "sell oneself" due to sponsorships; how to build good relationships with interviewees to gain sustained attention; and how to conduct multiple interviews to make the reporting more vivid.
"Thought" collects the professional reflections and experiences of editors and journalists: from understanding and grasping the standards of "objective reporting" and the scale of "moralization," to achieving compatibility between broad perspectives and detailed descriptions, to smaller matters like how to interact with officials, how to use names and titles appropriately, and how to correctly attribute anonymous sources.
"Debate" uses the intense internal discussion at the newspaper about the article "Angels on weekdays, demons on weekends" to vividly present the tradition of internal report reviews at Southern Weekly and the backstage operations of the newsroom.
