New period literature, generally speaking, refers to the literature of China since 1977, and it is an open-ended concept that continues to this day. The works selected in this book are published up to the year 2000. The book is divided into five volumes by genre: Poetry Volume, Drama Volume, Short Story Volume, Middle-Grade Novel Volume, and Prose Volume. Among them, the Middle-Grade Novel Volume includes a list of long novels. The structure and format of the book are as follows:
1. Works. The works are grouped according to different schools of thought and trends, with a blank line between each group. The order of works within each group, except for poetry which is arranged by surname stroke order, is based on the chronological order of their publication.
2. Works List. Both the Drama and Middle-Grade Novel volumes include a list of works. The Middle-Grade Novel Volume also includes a list of long novels, with a brief introduction from the original edition recorded after the bibliography. All the titles in the list and the bibliography are arranged in the order of publication or release of the works.
3. Selected Critical Articles. The selected critical articles include reviews of the works listed in this volume of the book. The categories of the selected articles are roughly the same across different volumes, including comprehensive reviews, analyses of individual works, and discussions on the artistic forms of the genre of the respective volume.
