During the Land Revolution period, the predecessor of this army, the Red 28th Army, faced Nationalist forces numbering up to 56 regiments in a desperate situation with no food or external support. Using flexible strategic tactics, they persisted in a three-year guerrilla war in the Ehuai-Anbian region. During the War of Resistance Against Japan, the various units of this army, facing a severe national crisis and the threat of major enemies, firmly implemented the correct decision of the Party's national united front policy, launched guerrilla warfare in enemy territory, advanced eastward, and fired the first shots of the War of Resistance at Jiangjiahe. During the War of Liberation, this army, in major battles and campaigns such as the Shangdang Campaign, defending Yan'an, the bloody battle of Menglianggu Mountain, the siege and capture of Jinan, the struggle for the Central Plains, the Huaihai Campaign, the thousand-li pursuit to Hangzhou, and the liberation of Zhoushan, showed no fear of strong enemies, excelled in both offense and defense, and achieved immortal merits. In 1952, this army participated in several major battles in the later stages of the Korean War. This is a grand epic that reflects the blood and fire journey of this army during the war years.
