A Study of the History of Yuan

Author: Fang Linggui
Publisher:
Publish Date: 2004-10-01
Features: This book includes twenty of the author's articles on the Yuan Dynasty and one translated manuscript titled "Introduction to the Study of the Secret History of the Yuan Dynasty," totaling approximately 300,000 words, titled "Collected Studies on the Yuan Dynasty." Here, I will briefly add a few words to speak of it. The book "Tongzhi Tiaoge" is highly important in the study of Yuan Dynasty history and Chinese legal history. It has been published as "Annotated Tongzhi Tiaoge" (Zhonghua Book Company edition). During the writing process, due to the constraints of the format, some annotations could not fully express the author's intent, often being summarized as "further examination elsewhere." The chapters included in this book, such as "Variations in Names in Tongzhi Tiaoge," "Five Examples of Terminology in Tongzhi Tiaoge," and "Notes on Tongzhi Tiaoge," were written to address this deficiency. As a literary work, Yuanqu does not hold a significant position in the history of Chinese literature. Moreover, as historical output, it has its own irreplaceable value in studying the political, social conditions, and language of the Yuan Dynasty. In a broader sense, the study of Yuan Dynasty history should also give Yuanqu the attention it deserves.
