How is acute epididymitis treated?

Patient's question:

Hello doctor, I am 47 years old, male, and have been diagnosed with acute epididymitis. I feel very upset! I don't understand why I got acute epididymitis? I don't know if I can be cured? I heard that treating male diseases is not that simple, so I want to learn more.

Doctor's answer:

Treatment Methods for Acute Epididymitis:
1. Acute epididymitis patients can alleviate pain through bed rest and elevating the scrotum. In the early stages, ice packs can be used by placing them on the epididymis to prevent swelling. In later stages, heat therapy can be applied to promote local blood circulation, accelerating the resolution of inflammation.
2. Some patients may develop chronic epididymitis due to inadequate or incomplete treatment of acute epididymitis. Besides pain and potential infertility caused by bilateral epididymitis, chronic epididymitis has no severe consequences. However, once it reaches the fibrosis stage, reversal is impossible. If chronic epididymitis recurs multiple times, the patient may consider an epididymectomy.
