Semen has a strong odor.

Patient's question:

Is it normal for semen to have a strong odor?

Doctor's answer:

Hello! Fresh semen appears as a thick jelly-like consistency. Normal semen is grayish-white and becomes translucent milky white after spontaneous liquefaction. Those who have not ejaculated for a long time may have slightly yellowish semen. Dark-colored semen is often seen in cases of hematospermia. The most common cause is seminal vesiculitis, followed by prostatitis and posterior urethritis or posterior urethral congestion. It can also be caused by inflammation spreading from adjacent organs, leading to inflammation, swelling, congestion, and bleeding of the seminal vesicle wall. Generally, at least 70% of hematospermia is caused by inflammation. Therefore, it is recommended that you go to a regular hospital for examination to identify the specific cause of the semen and then seek treatment as soon as possible.
