Chinese herbal formula for chronic epididymitis

Patient's question:

I have chronic epididymitis. Could you please tell me what kind of Chinese herbal medicine can treat problems with the testicles? It's chronic, so it would be best to have a Chinese herbal treatment! Thank you!

Doctor's answer:

The basic formula consists of: Polygonum multiflorum 20g, Prunella vulgaris 10g, Smilax glabra 10g, Myroxylon masticum 10g, Commiphora myrrha 10g, Ligusticum chuanxiong 10g, Paeonia lactiflora 10g, Persicae Semen 10g, Angelica sinensis 10g. If the tongue is red with yellow greasy coating and the pulse is slippery or rapid, add Talc 10g, Polygonum aviculare 10g, and Lonicera japonica 10g. If there is insufficient kidney yin, remove Smilax glabra and Prunella vulgaris, and add Rehmannia glutinosa 20g, Dendrobium candidum 10g, and Dipsacus asper 10g. Take one dose per day, divided into two servings of 150ml each. The medicinal dregs are decocted into 500ml for local application and washing, combined with local physical therapy. Each 10 days constitute one course of treatment. Observe 3 to 6 courses of treatment. Clinical observation and statistics show a total effective rate of 92.6%, with an average course of treatment lasting 3.2 days. Chronic epididymitis can be classified into the TCM categories of "Zi Yong" (testicular abscess) and "Lin Zheng" (dysuria) based on its symptoms. It is characterized by a heavy and distending sensation in the scrotum, fixed pain, and local fibrosis, which are signs of blood stasis in TCM. Since the liver meridian connects to the external genitalia, liver meridian blood stasis is the root cause of this condition. Epididymal Decoction uses Polygonum multiflorum to invigorate blood and resolve stasis, clear heat, and detoxify, while Myroxylon masticum, Commiphora myrrha, Ligusticum chuanxiong, and Persicae Semen to invigorate blood and improve local blood circulation in the epididymis. Angelica sinensis is chosen for its blood-vigorizing properties without harming the body. Prunella vulgaris and Smilax glabra clear heat, detoxify, soften hard masses, and resolve stagnation. Paeonia lactiflora nourishes the liver and softens it. All these herbs work together to achieve detoxification, blood invigoration, and softening of hard masses. Modern pharmacological studies show that Polygonum multiflorum, Myroxylon masticum, and Commiphora myrrha have analgesic effects, which can alleviate pain and discomfort in the scrotum. Persicae Semen and Ligusticum chuanxiong have anticoagulant effects, which can enhance local blood circulation in the epididymis. Antibacterial tests indicate that Polygonum multiflorum, Prunella vulgaris, and Smilax glabra have varying degrees of inhibitory effects on Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, and Proteus mirabilis. Clinical practice demonstrates that TCM treatment of chronic epididymitis has unique efficacy, being safe, effective, and free of side effects with a low recurrence rate.
