Features: The Three Gorges Project is a world-renowned large-scale water conservancy project, a key infrastructure project for the governance and development of the Yangtze River, with significant comprehensive benefits such as flood control, power generation, and navigation. However, at the same time, factors such as reservoir relocation during construction, impacts on construction areas, and changes in the hydrological conditions of the Yangtze River resulting from the project's completion may lead to ecological changes, which in turn will affect the ecology, environment, and even the socio-economy of the reservoir area, the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River, and the estuary area to varying degrees. In accordance with the requirements of the Environmental Impact Assessment Report for the Three Gorges Project, under the organizational coordination of the State Council's Three Gorges Office, the establishment of the currently only nationwide Three Gorges Project Ecological and Environmental Monitoring System, composed of cross-regional and cross-departmental collaboration, began in 1994. The purpose of this system is to establish a comprehensive and representative monitoring network around the construction and future operation of the Three Gorges Project.
