Features: The South China aims to study the mesoscale structure, variation mechanisms, and patterns of pre-summer rainy season and landfalling typhoon in South China by integrating mesoscale field experiments, dynamic diagnosis, and numerical simulations. The goal is to deepen the understanding of mesoscale theory in South China, provide new scientific evidence for improving mesoscale monitoring and numerical prediction models, and enhance short-term forecasting. After more than five years of work, the "South China" successfully completed its planned tasks, conducting successful field experiments and obtaining comprehensive observational data for seven pre-summer rainy season events. However, due to the absence of typhoons landing in South China during the trial period, no typhoon experimental data were collected. Using these data, the project established a complete 1998 South China database. Significant progress has been made in various aspects, including the application of ground-based global positioning system (GPS) for detecting atmospheric column water vapor, Doppler weather radar for analyzing mesoscale wind field structures, satellite-derived surface feature data and cloud track wind data for mesoscale numerical simulations, the integration and three-dimensional dynamic display of multiple observational data, mesoscale dynamic analysis and diagnosis of, and β-mesoscale numerical simulations. This book comprehensively summarizes the research achievements of the project.
