What are the causes that can lead to hematospermia in men?

Patient's question:

After we shared a room, when we got up, there was blood in what came out. It was checked and said that I have seminal vesiculitis.

Doctor's answer:

Inflammatory conditions of the male reproductive tract, such as prostatitis, seminal vesiculitis, urethritis, epididymitis, prostatic calculi of the spermatic cord, and ureteral-bladder calculi, can all cause blood in the semen. Chronic prostatitis can also lead to hematospermia, with a mechanism similar to seminal vesiculitis. Since prostatic fluid is another important component of semen, inflammation, congestion, and exudation in the prostate due to infection; frequent sexual activity causing capillary rupture; and the forceful contraction and relaxation of the prostate during ejaculation as prostatic fluid is expelled—all of these can cause blood in the prostatic fluid, which in turn contaminates the semen with blood. Similar to chronic prostatitis, benign prostatic hyperplasia can also result in hematospermia.
