Features: Plant developmental biology is an interdisciplinary field that has evolved from disciplines such as plant morphology and anatomy, embryology, genetics, biochemistry, and molecular biology. It is another research hotspot in biology following molecular biology. Like the development of other disciplines in biology, the growth of plant developmental biology has lagged behind that of animal developmental biology. However, in recent years, the number of research papers on this topic has been increasing, especially in areas such as the regulatory mechanisms of vascular cambium formation and activity, signal transduction during development and its modes of action, gene regulation, and the genetic regulation of floral bud differentiation, where significant achievements have been made. More and more developmental biologists are beginning to use the theories and techniques of modern cell biology and molecular biology to study the fundamental questions of organismal development. At the same time, an increasing number of cell biologists, biochemists, and molecular biologists are turning to the study of developmental biology. Many molecular biologists are even seeking collaborations with morphologists to jointly investigate developmental biology issues. Currently, research in this field in China is still relatively backward, and there is an urgent need for someone to introduce these achievements and prospects to promote the development of this discipline in the country.
