Post varicocelectomy testicular swelling

Patient's question:

I had surgery last Tuesday, but a week later I noticed that my left testicle had become very large, more than double the size of the right one. It also felt heavy and swollen, and it hurt when I touched it. Today, I went to the hospital for a follow-up check-up. The doctor gently pressed it and said I had acute orchitis. During my hospital stay, I was given anti-inflammatory injections, and for the two days after discharge, I took anti-inflammatory medication (cephalexin). I don't understand how this inflammation could have been caused. I even suspect that the surgery failed, because the preoperative ultrasound exam did not detect any orchitis. But why did it develop after the surgery? Is it normal to develop orchitis postoperatively in clinical practice? If it really is orchitis, what should I

Doctor's answer:

Hello bigsea9440,
If you even suspect that it might be a surgical failure, then it's no longer an issue of orchitis.
If it is orchitis, it wouldn't be a feeling of heaviness or dragging, but rather redness, swelling, heat, and pain, or symptoms of systemic fever.
You can have an ultrasound (at other reputable hospitals) to check the spermatic vein.
Wishing you good health!
