Features: Listen and Learn 2000 is divided into four levels. It is designed for English majors in colleges and universities, as well as for postgraduate students, undergraduates, and science and technology professionals with advanced English proficiency. Listen and Learn 2000 is an extension of Listen and Learn. It still adheres to the principle of balancing content and listening skills, emphasizing the authenticity and typicality of selected materials, and consistently focuses on developing students' listening comprehension and thinking abilities. Listen and Learn 2000 goes beyond Listen and Learn. It adopts brand-new listening materials and pays more attention to the overall thematic layout across the four levels. With a human-centered approach, it revolves around students as the main subject, striving to reflect the intrinsic relationship between the content learned at each stage and human development, guiding students to understand the ever-changing objective world and solidly develop themselves. In terms of listening skills, Listen and Learn 2000 continues to emphasize the training of micro-skills and comprehensive skills, and attempts to analyze the essence of listening from a theoretical perspective in the form of short lectures, highlighting key points to help students overcome potential psychological issues and listening barriers. "Language Appreciation and Language Learning" is another creative feature of Listen and Learn 2000. This section of the textbook appropriately summarizes English idioms or other elegant language expressions from relevant chapters, demonstrating learning methods and encouraging knowledge accumulation, allowing students to further appreciate the beauty and joy of English listening learning. Thanks to the joint efforts of the Foreign Language Editing Office, Audiovisual Department, and related design and art editors of East China Normal University Press, the appearance, layout, illustrations, colors, and recordings of Listen and Learn 2000 are all refreshingly new. Listen and Learn 2000 has also received continuous support and assistance from many colleagues in the leadership of the School of Foreign Languages, Language Laboratory, Resource Room, Office, and other departments at East China Normal University. This book is the fourth level, consisting of twelve units. The chapter structure and objectives of each unit are largely consistent with the previous three levels. However, the principles of content selection reflect different emphases: the first level focuses on outlining some macro changes and characteristics of contemporary society; the second level's content primarily revolves around the healthy growth of students in terms of their profession, temperament, and physique; the third level draws students' attention to the world, including news reports and achievements introductions in various fields such as international politics, economy, science and technology, and transportation; while the fourth level, as the final level of the entire series, finally focuses on practical aspects such as society, education, work, and family, aiming to guide students to face the future and reflect on both the objective and subjective worlds. Professor Glen Chesnut reviewed the entire manuscript of the fourth level. Friends who participated in the recording include Paul Ryan, Melody Bearden, Adam MacMahon, and others.
