An Anthology of Contemporary Chinese Artists Discussing Art. Qiu Ting

Features: In May 2005, due to work-related reasons, the author had a conversation with Arnaud Duthuit, the lifelong secretary general of the Collège de France's Institute of Art. When discussing Chinese culture, he spoke earnestly to the author, saying that Chinese culture has a strong spiritual essence. The French greatly admire Chinese art and the unique way Chinese people think about problems. Chinese culture should not bow to American culture. The author's impression is that Mr. Duthuit's remarks were sincere and free of pretense. However, when the author mentioned the names and works of contemporary Chinese writers and artists, the elderly gentleman seemed completely lost. The book records the artistic creation experience and works accumulated over the years by the artist. Among them, the firm statements are thought-provoking, and the creative experiences and explorations in form also make one feel that the discourse system of contemporary Chinese art is within reach—this, of course, is an optimistic feeling. The author enjoys this feeling, even though it is somewhat illusory and hazy, because it has changed the long-held mindset of self-doubt.
