How to treat impotence

Patient's question:

I have had hyperthyroidism for over two years and have been experiencing poor sexual performance. Now I don't get erect. Recently, my heart condition has also been bad.

Doctor's answer:

There are many causes of erectile dysfunction. In terms of treatment, the following principles can be followed, which may yield some effect:
1. Abstain from masturbation, moderate sexual activity, avoid intense sexual desires, and refrain from using repeated intercourse to extend the duration of the second sexual act. This is detrimental to health and should be avoided.
2. The emotional state before intercourse greatly affects the speed of ejaculation. To prevent premature ejaculation, it is important to avoid worries, excitement, and tension, and to build confidence while cooperating with treatment.
3. The female partner should be understanding, comforting, and avoid blaming or threatening the male partner. Otherwise, the situation may worsen and hinder recovery from the condition.
4. Avoid casually and excessively taking aphrodisiacs.
5. There is no uniform standard for the duration of ejaculation. Generally, it is considered to be 2–6 minutes, but ejaculation within a shorter time frame is also normal. As long as both partners feel satisfied, it is considered successful. The duration of time should not be used as a measure of success.
