Patient's question:
My boyfriend and I slept together all night without taking off his pants, and he was hard the entire time. When he woke up this morning, he felt pain while walking. Over the past two days, his glans has been red and swollen, with clear fluid leaking out. He says it might be inflamed.Doctor's answer:
Balanoposthitis is generally treated both internally and externally. For the treatment of acute superficial balanoposthitis and annular erosive balanoposthitis, erythromycin and tetracycline are the first-line choices, usually taken at a dose of 0.5g four times daily. For trichomoniasis balanoposthitis, metronidazole is the preferred treatment, taken at a dose of 0.2g three times daily for 10 days. For balanoposthitis caused by Candida albicans, it is commonly treated with griseofulvin or itraconazole. Griseofulvin at a dose of 100,000 to 200,000 units twice daily, or itraconazole at a dose of 100mg twice daily, for 7 days.
