Reading These Events in History, you can observe the changes of the times, understand the gains and losses of politics, learn the wisdom of life, and draw on the experiences of success and failure. In today's highly developed information age, the wisdom accumulated by the ancients over thousands of years has an unbreakable cultural continuity and a highly practical significance in application. Through reading These Events in History, we can realize and learn several aspects of life wisdom:
First, the wisdom of emperors in controlling. What is called controlling is to firmly grasp the control of the overall situation. The supreme and unique status of emperors determines their way of life, methods of dealing with others, and leadership philosophy, all of which can be summarized in one word—"dominate." Make the talents of the world serve you, and make the efforts of the world benefit you. The absolute ruling position of emperors over their subordinates and the overall situation in feudal politics gives them the space to fully play their life wisdom: as long as you firmly hold the control of the overall situation in your hands, everything else will be easy to handle.
Second, the wisdom of ministers in planning. What is called planning is to use an entrepreneurial mindset to strategize, making it easier to succeed. Generally speaking, as ministers, one must lead others while also being led by others—even the prime ministers of ancient times were not above the high and mighty emperor. For a minister, the most important thing is the word "loyalty." But when we open a Twenty-Four Histories, we find that loyal ministers are not necessarily rewarded by the king, nor are they necessarily successful in their achievements, nor are they necessarily smooth in their official careers, and they may even risk their lives. We do not deny that ministers must be loyal, especially loyal to the highest interests of the nation. However, as a "leader" who must subordinate themselves, and as a "leader" who must face complex situations like competition, only by viewing their own status and the things they do with an entrepreneurial mindset will they achieve success in their plans.
Third, the wisdom of preserving oneself and one's family. As a minister, one must understand this: achieving success in deeds is different from preserving oneself and one's family. Have you not seen how loyal ministers become ghosts? Have you not seen how achievements are made but people fail to achieve their ambitions? All of this is the result of knowing how to do things but not knowing how to preserve oneself and one's family. This brings us to the topic of political strategy. People immediately think of dark and despicable words like cunning, baseless, and treachery, because in traditional Chinese culture, political strategy has always been criticized yet frequently used in political struggles. Therefore, political strategy is an unavoidable aspect for leaders in ancient politics. You may despise political strategy, but you cannot avoid studying it, and you must be more vigilant to prevent yourself from becoming a victim of political strategy. Those who can plan for success are wise, but if one cannot preserve oneself or one's family, what is the point of achieving success?
