Patient's question:
My baby was born three days ago, and because of jaundice, the doctor had him hospitalized for blue light treatment. After three days, his condition stabilized, and he was discharged. However, I noticed that three days after discharge, he seemed to be jaundiced again. Is it possible to receive blue light treatment again?Doctor's answer:
If a child has jaundice in the skin from birth to twenty-eight days after birth, it can be called neonatal jaundice. It can be divided into physiological jaundice and pathological jaundice. If it is physiological jaundice, there is no need to worry because jaundice will resolve on its own. If the child has pathological jaundice, it is recommended to check the liver function to identify the type and see whether it is based on a decrease in indirect bilirubin, an increase in direct bilirubin, or both decreasing. If it is based on a decrease in indirect bilirubin, blue light treatment can be used to resolve the jaundice.
