Embedded Adaptation Model: Changes in Korean Chinese Culture and Lifestyle

Author: Lu Yilong
Publisher:
Publish Date: 2006-12-01
Features: This book is a work on the culture and lifestyle changes of the Chinese overseas community in Korea. The author employs sociological and anthropological methods. It collects macro background data and micro life materials related to the Chinese overseas community in Korea. Based on these empirical materials, it systematically explores and examines relevant theories in the study of overseas Chinese and Chinese overseas communities, such as assimilation theory, ethnic economic agglomeration theory, and cultural pluralism theory. Through empirical studies of the residential patterns, ethnic and cultural identity, occupational attainment, social networks, social action, and future trends of the Chinese overseas community in Korea, it summarizes the theory of embedded immigrant adaptation models. It argues that the adaptation model chosen by the Chinese overseas community in Korea is neither an assimilation model nor an agglomeration model, but rather a distinctive embedded adaptation model. The reasons for this are twofold: first, exclusion from Korean society; second, their own cultural traditions. This book not only provides reliable empirical materials for understanding and recognizing the current situation and challenges faced by the Chinese overseas community in Korea but also offers a theoretical and methodological example for the study of overseas Chinese and Chinese overseas communities and migration research.
