Features: This book is a collection of papers from the "East Asian Economic Cooperation Forum," jointly organized by the Institute for Comprehensive Development (China·Shenzhen) and the Japan Institute for International and Regional Studies in Guangxi, China, on November 24-25, 2005. Since 1995, the Institute for Comprehensive Development (China·Shenzhen) and the Japan Institute for International and Regional Studies have co-hosted nine sessions of the "East Asian Economic Cooperation Forum" in Shenzhen, Hong Kong, Okinawa, Sanya, Macau, Fukuoka, Taiwan, Jeju Island, and Nanning. The forum has brought together officials, experts, and scholars from China, Japan, South Korea, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, the Philippines, Cambodia, and the Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan regions. They have jointly discussed the challenges faced by East Asian economies at different stages and played a role as a think tank and bridge for the region. The "East Asian Economic Cooperation Forum" has become a well-established platform, with its pragmatic research outcomes serving as a reference for decision-making by governments in East Asian countries and contributing positively to regional economic cooperation. As an academic outcome of the "East Asian Economic Cooperation Forum," and to help more international and domestic individuals understand the process of economic integration in East Asia, the challenges it faces, and its future opportunities and prospects, we have compiled and published the speeches and discussions of participants after each forum.
