Features: Four or five months ago, Peter began preparing for his photo book. He specifically apprenticed under the photographer Jun, studying photography diligently. He showed great respect for his master, always rushing up when his master changed lenses, carefully taking the lens being replaced and handing over the one his master wanted. Their coordination was absolutely telepathic. When Peter felt inspired, he often called his master at night, asking across the ocean and sea about camera models and the various accessories that went with them.
Actually, my dream since childhood has been to publish a comic. Creating a comic means you are both the photographer and the director, taking the lead yourself—it’s very fulfilling. Many people say comics are just for kids, but I’ve studied comics for a long time and have met many martial arts directors or directors who learn from Japanese comics by finding shots and camera angles. Because comics are essentially movies—they just arrange a few classic shots from each scene.
I want to direct my own film. Those who can lead themselves are the most admirable heroes, not just props to be imitated. Now, let me imagine what it would be like to be a director in real life. Look, I’m doing the makeup.
