Features: In February 2006, we launched a series of books titled "Spider Memory Method for Vocabulary Memorization," making exploratory attempts in the aspect of web-like vocabulary memorization. Upon release, the series received overwhelming positive reviews from all sides, and some institutions even directly adopted our books as teaching materials for experimental classes. This was unexpected for us, and in the chaos, we summarized some experiences: First, English learners have gradually become more rational, starting to tire of vocabulary books that are as monotonous as dictionaries. Vocabulary books that lack focus, simply list words without organization, and lack wisdom and innovation are slowly being excluded from English learners' consideration. Second, readers crave humanistic care. Of course, this care is based on the aesthetic tastes of the reader group. More English learners are beginning to focus on their own level and learning ability during the process of learning English, gradually reducing the pressure of seeking "more, faster, better, and cheaper" learning methods. As a result, more English learners tend to prefer books that are "highly targeted, functional, and highly caring" when selecting teaching materials. Our explorations and attempts happen to "" the above two trends, of course, I am not tooting our own horns that our series has reached the ultimate in this regard. Sincerely, we were only moved by our readers in small ways, and behind the praise, we are more cautious as if walking on thin ice. Based on this, the newly launched series of books "Super Spider Web Vocabulary Memorization," we have poured more heart and soul into it, making bolder attempts on the original basis and also learning from the strengths of similar vocabulary books. Here are the features of our series:
1. Stronger Targeting: This series is aimed at various English exams. Experienced exam experts carefully select core vocabulary from the latest exam syllabi of all levels based on the principles of "high frequency" and "high score" as the foundation and source of web-like memorization—"word spiders," and indicate their frequency of occurrence.
2. Enhanced Web-like Memorization Function and Features: The efficiency of web-like memorization is actually not difficult to understand. For example, to remember the sequence "1, 3, 4, 5, 4, 7, 8, 15," a person might need to repeat it three times or more (for an average person), and it might be forgotten overnight. But if you tell them, "1 family of 3 people, the child finds a partner, making it 4 people, and they have a child, making it 5 people. The new family needs to support 4 elderly people. Three blood-related families have a total of 7 people, and there are 8 more elderly people above, making a total of 15 people," I believe most people can remember this sequence for a relatively long time. In this series, we not only retain the widely favored "word spider web" for word meaning expansion but also add the "question spider web"— ( association); the "meaning spider web"— (polysemy association chain memorization); and the "super sentence spider web"— (multiple-word chain memorization). Various memory association networks will significantly enhance learners' memorization effectiveness.
3. Adjusted Book Structure Based on Exam Requirements: For example, the postgraduate English entrance exam focuses on the deep and derived meanings of words, so we have added a section on frequently tested meanings and incorporated the "meaning spider web"— (polysemy association chain memorization). For the IELTS reading exam, which emphasizes synonyms and rewriting, we have removed antonym expansion from the "word spider web" and increased the proportion of synonym expansion. The series strives to balance generality and individuality.
4. Inspired by the Effective "Red Film Memory": The series uses black and red dual-color printing, with English (vocabulary) printed in red. When readers finish studying and want to test their memorization, they can cover the content with the red film provided with the book to hide the English and only show the Chinese word meanings, helping them identify weak areas in their memorization and improve their learning effectiveness.
5. Popular Layout Style of Vocabulary Books: The series adopts a horizontal layout to reduce visual fatigue and extend effective memorization time.
6. Unique Card Design, Reflecting Humanistic Care: This book can be cut along the dotted line and placed in the attached paper bag for easy carrying. As the saying goes, "Time reveals a horse's strength, and long-term experience reveals a person's heart." With this book, we extend our sincere greetings to all teachers dedicated to English teaching and those who are keenly exploring new methods.
