After sexual activity, the semen is red, is it hematospermia?

Patient's question:

Left and right, I found this phenomenon last night.

Doctor's answer:

Hello, you may have hematospermia, which is the presence of blood in the semen. Blood in the semen can manifest as entirely light red, partially light red, or coffee-colored, all of which indicate the presence of blood. Normal semen should not contain blood components. If the hematospermia occurs only occasionally and no specific abnormalities are found upon examination, it may be due to minor blood vessel rupture caused by rapid congestion and mechanical trauma during sexual intercourse. In such cases of transient hematospermia, there is no need to panic. Simply abstaining from sexual activity for one to two weeks should allow for complete recovery. Hematospermia caused by inflammation, however, tends to fluctuate in severity, such as in cases of prostatitis, seminal vesiculitis, urethritis, epididymitis, prostatic calculi, or urethral-bladder calculi. If the hematospermia persists and worsens progressively, the possibility of a tumor cannot be ruled out. In some patients, the presence of widespread bleeding tendencies in other parts of the body may indicate a systemic hemorrhagic disorder, such as leukemia or thrombocytopenia. We recommend that you visit our Reproductive Infection Department for diagnosis and symptomatic treatment to avoid delaying the condition.
