Patient's question:
How to treat scabiesDoctor's answer:
Hello: Treatment can be carried out as follows; For complete treatment, it is generally required to shave off the pubic hair and burn it to completely eliminate the environment in which pubic lice thrive. Additionally, the claws of pubic lice are very strong; they often grip the hair shaft tightly and are difficult to detach, so shaving the pubic hair is necessary for treatment. The pubic hair should then be burned with fire.
In addition to shaving the pubic hair, local cleaning and topical ointments are also required.
Commonly used medications are as follows:
(1) 10% sulfur ointment, applied 2–3 times daily. Alternatively, 15% sulfur cream can be applied externally 2 times per day for several days.
(2) 30% stemona tincture, applied 3–4 times daily for several days. Or, 25%-50% stemona alcohol extract, applied externally 2 times daily for 3 consecutive days, followed by applying warm vinegar to destroy the adhesive substance between the lice eggs and the hair, making it easier to remove the eggs.
(3) 1% gamma-hexachlorocyclohexane (benzene hexachloride, commonly known as "Jie Ling") applied externally 2 times per day for several days.
(4) Eulit soft ointment applied externally.
(5) 25% benzyl benzoate emulsion applied externally 3 times per day for several days.
(6) 0.5% phosalone powder or cream applied externally 2 times per day for 3 days.
(7) 0.01% cypermethrin solution. This is an efficient and low-toxicity insecticide. Apply once to make the entire pubic hair moist, and wash it off after 3 days. This medication also kills lice eggs and is harmless to humans. However, care should be taken to prevent accidental ingestion or entry into the eyes or mucous membranes.
(8) 1% mercury alcohol
(9) 1% hexachlorobenzene
