Patient's question:
Detailed medical condition and consultation purpose:I had a semen analysis because I am getting married. The semen was obtained through masturbation. The results showed:
18.28% rapid forward movement,
30.11% slow or sluggish forward movement,
9.68% non-forward movement,
41.94% extremely slow or immobile,
average curvilinear velocity 25.19 (μm/s),
motility rate 58.06%,
deformity rate 24.73%.
The doctor said my motility was insufficient. I had a color Doppler ultrasound for varicocele, which was normal. My girlfriend insisted on another test (10 days later), and I was expected to have produced semen by then. The results were good.
Doctor's answer:
The fluctuations in semen analysis can be significant, and there is no need to be overly anxious about a single abnormal result. Typically, if a clinical patient has an abnormal test result, the doctor will recommend repeating the test next week. Abstinence from sexual activity for three to five days before the test is usually required. The next test may turn out to be normal, and a high rate of abnormal sperm is also related to poor lifestyle habits. Additionally, the color of the semen is not strongly correlated with whether the sperm morphology rate is high or not.
