Is varicocele surgery harmful?

Patient's question:

I'm having this surgery tomorrow~ I'm so scared~ Everyone online says it can easily injure the artery and cause testicular atrophy, which is really terrifying. I'm in a less developed city, and I'm seeing a deputy attending physician at our municipal hospital. There's no laparoscopic surgery available here, so we have to go with open surgery. Could you please ask the doctor if this surgery really has a high risk and difficulty? Can traditional surgical methods lead to a full recovery? Will it recur?

Doctor's answer:

Mild cases show no discomfort. The typical symptoms are a sense of heaviness and aching pain in the scrotum or testicles, which worsen when standing or walking and significantly or disappear when lying down.
