Is this varicocele?

Patient's question:

Hello! Let me tell you about my situation. I am 42 years old, and this has been going on for about 2 years! The symptoms are a swollen lower left testicle, but sometimes it returns to normal. The swelling alternates between present and absent, and it doesn't hurt. When it's swollen, it feels smooth and hard. When it's not swollen, if you gently squeeze it, you can feel a slightly softer texture. This year, the right side has also started doing the same thing, but it's not as swollen as the left. Is this varicocele? What consequences could this have, and how can it be treated?

Doctor's answer:

Varicocele primarily manifests as a heavy and distended feeling in the testicles. In severe cases, it can cause pain, often becoming more pronounced after prolonged standing. It is recommended that you reduce standing, wear supportive briefs, and frequently clean the testicles. If the condition is not too severe, it should be manageable and not significantly impact your health. However, if it worsens, surgical treatment may need to be considered.
