Features: Minister of Foreign Affairs Li Zhaoxing began publishing poems in the Literary Week of Tianjin Daily in January 1996. Before leaving for the United States to assume the post of China's Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary in 1998, he was invited by the newspaper to launch a personal poetry column titled "Cloud Wanderings and Heart Traces." By August 2005, he had published 192 new poems, all first-time publications, with outstanding works that were deeply favored by readers. Minister Li's entire body of poetry consistently reflects his loyalty to the motherland, his deep love for the people, his friendship with people of all nations, and his pursuit of beauty. With profound philosophy, sharp wit, spirited writing, and a broad-minded outlook, his poetry stands out in today's literary scene. This collection includes all the poems he published in the newspaper over these ten years. Over 60 of them have been translated into foreign languages and have gained popularity overseas. Works such as "Youthful China," "Lake Lemont," "Overture to the Nile," and "Farewell to New York" have been set to music and widely sung. The Tianjin Daily's "Cloud Wanderings and Heart Traces" column was also awarded the Best Column Prize for Newspaper Supplements in 1998 at the national level.
