How is balanitis treated?

Patient's question:

The glans and foreskin are red and swollen, itchy, with mild ulcers. The symptoms fluctuate between better and worse. Are there topical or oral treatments available? A check-up at a regular hospital confirmed it to be balanoposthitis, with normal urinalysis results. The doctor prescribed "Yanran" capsules, but after taking them, I felt they were ineffective.

Doctor's answer:

Hello!
Phimosis can be caused by both infectious and non-infectious factors. Due to unprotected sexual contact, infections with Candida, Trichomonas, Chlamydia, Mycoplasma, and Neisseria gonorrhoeae can all lead to balanoposthitis. Non-infectious factors are often related to excessive foreskin, poor hygiene, or the accumulation of unclean substances between the foreskin and glans, known as smegma, which can irritate the local foreskin and mucosa, causing inflammation.
There are various types of balanoposthitis. It is recommended that you undergo standardized examination and, ideally, a drug sensitivity test to determine the appropriate medication.
