Regarding varicocele

Patient's question:

Please ask the doctor:
After researching medical knowledge about varicocele online, I have self-diagnosed it as "varicocele," but I'm not entirely sure. I started dating my girlfriend when I was 20, but due to studying abroad, I only had sexual relations with her over three years, and the frequency was very low. I remember then that there was something abnormal in my left scrotum, but I didn't understand it at the time and didn't pay attention. This year, I reunited with my girlfriend, and over the past three months, our sexual activity has been very frequent. I noticed that the symptoms are more pronounced than before, but they are not very severe. I have read about the causes of varicocele.

Doctor's answer:

Physiological factors: Young and middle-aged individuals have more active sexual functions, and the blood supply to the contents of the scrotum is abundant. Therefore, some varicoceles may gradually disappear with age. Additionally, prolonged standing and increased abdominal pressure are also contributing factors.
Other factors: Posterior abdominal tumors, renal tumors, hydronephrosis, and other conditions that compress the internal spermatic veins can cause symptomatic or secondary varicoceles. Primary varicoceles typically disappear quickly when lying down, while secondary varicoceles often do not disappear or take a longer time to resolve.
Furthermore, excessive masturbation can also lead to varicoceles.
