How long does it take to recover from a circumcision?

Patient's question:

I just had a circumcision surgery a few days ago and have been taking anti-inflammatory medication for 10 days. I still haven't seen any swelling go down, and it gets hard at night when I sleep, even waking me up in pain. There's still some redness around the wound. Is there any way to speed up the healing process?
What kind of help do I need: How long does it take to recover from a circumcision surgery?

Doctor's answer:

Due to individual differences, the recovery of local blood vessels and lymphatic vessels after circumcision is slower. Local tissue fluid and blood circulation may be poor, which can cause edema. Generally, it can subside in about 1 month. Under normal circumstances, the wound can heal preliminarily in about 7 days. The stitches will usually fall off within one to two weeks. If the stitches have not fallen off after half a month post-surgery, they will need to be removed. Generally, there is nothing to worry about 2 days after the stitches are removed. Don't be afraid of the pain.
