Features: In 1999, the National Education Examination Center of China launched the Public English Test System (PETS) for the general public. Its main purposes are: (1) to rationalize the relationships among existing English tests; (2) to provide the public with a clear, scientifically sound, and highly standardized testing system with well-defined levels, enabling a more thorough assessment of candidates' language proficiency and better serving China's reform and opening-up as well as the expansion of foreign exchanges. This system includes five levels, catering to the needs of different English proficiency levels. To help candidates better understand and prepare for this exam, we thoroughly studied the syllabi and relevant materials for each level of PETS and organized experienced college English teachers to write the series book, "Comprehensive Analysis of PETS Assessment Content and Supplementary Exercises (Levels 1-5)." Since its publication, the book has been widely welcomed by readers. With the revision of the PETS syllabus, we have also adjusted and updated the content of this "Comprehensive Analysis and Supplementary Exercises" to better serve readers. Following the same format as the previous edition, each level is divided into three chapters.
Chapter 1 covers test design, key points analysis, and important considerations for candidates when answering questions. It is written by authoritative experts with in-depth research on each level of the exam, providing a detailed analysis of the basic ideas behind the test design and the key points of each section, while also pointing out important considerations for candidates based on their actual situation.
Chapter 2 offers targeted exercises for each section, arranged according to the structure of the test papers for each level. It allows readers to assess their listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills, as well as their grasp of relevant language knowledge, enabling them to identify and address issues promptly. At the end of this chapter, the transcripts for the listening section and the answers to all exercises are provided for reference.
Chapter 3 is a mock test paper, with difficulty, skill requirements, and key points closely resembling the actual exam. It helps readers assess their overall English proficiency and estimate their performance in the official exam.
The accompanying CD-ROM and audio tapes include the listening materials from Chapters 2 and 3, recorded by British and American experts familiar with each level, to aid readers in practicing their listening skills. Due to time constraints and the authors' limitations, errors may inevitably exist. We welcome valuable feedback from experts, teachers, and learners to make improvements for future revisions.
