Does the child's phimosis surgery require surgery?

Patient's question:

I have already scheduled a circumcision surgery for the summer vacation of 2016. Is there a spot available this year? Approximately when? I would like to have it done during the summer vacation. If there isn't a spot, I will look for another hospital. Please take a look.

Doctor's answer:

Children under the age of 10 are generally not recommended to undergo surgery, as the penis of young children has not yet developed normally. Surgical treatment is only necessary for those who still have phimosis or paraphimosis after puberty. Before puberty, surgery is only considered if phimosis affects urination and has already caused adhesion. Therefore, the best age for a child to have a circumcision surgery is between 10 and 16 years old. This period is also when the body is growing, and having the surgery does not hinder the child's further growth.
Advice: It is better to have the surgery in spring or autumn, as it is easier to sweat in summer.
