Features: Since October 1956, when I participated in the sociological and historical survey of China's ethnic minorities, it has been nearly fifty years. Looking back on my experiences, they can be roughly divided into three stages. The first stage, from 1956 to 1987, focused on the primitive social forms of China's ethnic minorities. I designed several thematic studies to explore them, aiming to complete a book on the late primitive social forms of China's ethnic minorities. However, due to a shift in research priorities, this plan was shelved, and only a few related articles were completed. The second stage, from late 1986, involved my invitation to participate in the national key project "Comprehensive Collection of Primitive Religious Materials of China's Ethnic Groups," where I served as the chief editor for the six ethnic group volumes of Daur, Ewenki, Oroqen, Hezhe, Sibo, and Manchu. For this, I conducted field investigations in Inner Mongolia, Heilongjiang, Xinjiang, and other provinces. This task has not yet been completed, and my research field has shifted again. The third stage, starting from the second half of 1992, shifted my research focus to the current status of China's ethnic minorities. I led the major national social science fund project "Survey on the Current Status and Development of China's Ethnic Minorities," participating in the surveys and final writing of the Korean and Li ethnic groups, and was responsible for reviewing the volumes of Mongolian, Uyghur, Tibetan, and 11 other ethnic groups. The articles included in this collection are from the above three fields.
