Patient's question:
Medical Description: The baby had surgery on July 28, 2010, and it has been 17 days since then. I just noticed, while the baby was sleeping, that the testicle on the side where the surgery was performed has become 2.5 times larger than it was originally. What could be the reason for this?History of Treatment and Effect: Everything has been fine, except that the wound is itchy.
Desired Help: I want to know if the baby's testicle is inflamed. If it is, what should we do?
Doctor's answer:
The undescended testis of this infant, which refers to the testis not descending into the scrotum, is generally still located in the abdominal cavity in this condition. The most common location is the retroperitoneum, as the more common location is in the inguinal region. This condition is called testicular hypoplasia. Compared to older children, the undescended testis in infants can be promoted to descend using human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) medication, which is relatively easier to achieve.
